많이 사용되는 서양 약초이나, 아직 과학적 연구 증거는 부족한 편

 

가장 유명한 효과는 : 마약이 소변에서 검출되는것을 막아준다(masking)는 것이다. 그러나 이런 소문들이 있음에도 불구하고, 마리화나, 코카인, 암페타민 같은 불법 마약들의 검사를 막아주지는 못한다. 이런 소문은 소설 "tringtown on the Pike" (작가인 John Uri Lloyd가 약사다)  에서 비롯된 것인데, 사실상 그 소설에서는 goldenseal이 스트리키닌(strychinine - 독성이 강한 살충제, 근육경련을 일으키고 질식이나 탈진으로 사망에 이르게 한다, 스트리크닌 나무 씨앗에서 추출 ) 의 위양성을 만드는 것으로 묘사되었던 것이지 불법마약을 감추는 것은 아니었다.

 

골든씰은 "감기"로 대표되는 상기도 감염 - 코막힘, 건초열(hay fever) 에 많이 사용된다.

때로는 소화장애 (위장통, 위염, 위궤양, 대장염, 설사, 변비, 치질, 잦은 방귀 등)에 사용한다.

또한 UTI(배뇨관 감염), 출산후의 출혈, liver disorder, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), 황달, 임질(gonorrhea), 발열, 폐렴, 말라리아, 천식성 기침, anorexia(섭식장애)에 사용된다

 

그외에도 다양한 질환에 사용됨 : skin for rashes, ulcers, wound infections, itching, eczema, acne, dandruff, ringworm, herpes blisters, and cold sores. It is used as a mouthwash for sore gums and mouth, use eyewash for eye inflammation and eye infections called conjunctivitis, or “pink eye.”, used in the ears for ringing, earache, and deafness.

 

미국 벌몬트나 알칸사 쪽의 깊은 숲에서 쉽게 발견된다. 이 식물의 줄기쪽에 금색줄이 있고 줄기를 뜯으면 골든왁스레터 씰 같은게 보여서 골든씰이라는 이름이 붙음. 

How does it work?

골든씰은 베르베린(berberine)을 함유하고 있다.

보통 베르베린은 한약재의 황백, 황련에 들어있는 알칼로이드로, 노란색이며 쓴맛이 나는 위, 정장제로 사용되고 항균 작용이 있어서 장내의 이상발효, 세균성 설사의 치료에 사용되는 화학물질이다.

따라서 berberine의 효과로 골든씰도 박테리아와 곰팡이 균에 효과가 있을수 있다. 예를들어 대장균(E. Coli, Escherichia coli)이 요로의 벽에 붙어서 요로감염을 일으키는 것을 예방할수 있다. 오래된 연구에서는 베르베린이 혈당을 낮추고, 나쁜 콜레스테롤(LDL, Low-density lipoprotein)을 낮춘다고 보고되었다.

그러나 골든씰의 많은 주요 화학물들이, 이 약초를 입으로 섭취했을때 (경구섭취)했을때, 흡수력이 좋지 않기때문에 이 약초가 얼마나 베르베린의 효과를 인체에서 구현할지는 논란이 있다. 즉, 이 약재가 베르베린과 같은 효과를 갖는다고 말하기에는 충분한 에비던스가 아직 없다.

• Masking illegal drugs in urine tests. Goldenseal is often promoted to mask illicit drugs in the urine, but taking goldenseal by mouth does not seem to cause a false-negative result on drug tests for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Drinking one gallon of water with goldenseal does not increase the number of false negatives over water alone.

Insufficient Evidence for

• Urinary tract infections (UTIs).

• Hemorrhoids.

• Stomach upset.

• Loss of appetite (anorexia).

Special Precautions & Warnings: 임신이나 모유수유중에는 조심해야 한다. (LIKELY UNSAFE for the infant) 골든씰의 일부 유해성분이 태반을 통과할수 있고 또한 모유에서 검출될 수 있다. 골든씰에 노출된 신생아에서 뇌병증(핵황달 kernicterus - 뇌세포내에 간접 빌리루빈이 침착되어 생기는 신경학적 증후군, 심한경우 교환수혈, 사망 또는 후유증 남길수 있음 )이 보고된 바 있다. 어린이: 특히 신생에게는 사용해서는 안된다. (LIKELY UNSAFE) for them.

  The body breaks down cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune) to get rid of it. Goldenseal might decrease how fast the body breaks down cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune). This might cause there to be too much cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune) in the body and potentially cause side effects.

• Digoxin (Lanoxin) interacts with GOLDENSEAL

  Taking goldenseal with digoxin (Lanoxin) might cause a very slight increase in digoxin (Lanoxin) levels in the body. But this does not seem to be an important interaction.

• Medications changed by the liver (Cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) substrates) interacts with GOLDENSEAL

  Some medications are changed and broken down by the liver. Goldenseal might decrease how quickly the liver breaks down some medications. Taking goldenseal along with some medications that are changed by the liver can increase the effects and side effects of your medication.
